Why Affordability and Authenticity Still Matter in Healing Work I’ve been offering Reiki and energy healing for well over ten years now, and in all that time, I’ve only increased my prices once. It’s something I’ve reflected on a lot recently, especially as the cost of living continues to rise and so many people are having to make difficult choices about where their money goes.
In my local area, Reiki sessions typically range between £50–£60 an hour, and my sessions are £50 for an hour. Recently, I noticed a newer practitioner offering Reiki for nearly £100 an hour, so double the general market rate of the area. Of course, everyone is free to set their own prices, and there can be many reasons for charging more — location, venue costs, or how someone chooses to position their practice. But it did make me stop and think about the essence of Reiki and why I do this work. Dr Mikao Usui, the founder of Reiki, created this healing system in early 20th-century Japan at a time when many people could not afford medical care. His vision was to bring gentle, effective healing to everyone — especially to those who had little or no money. Reiki was designed to be simple, accessible, and affordable; a way for anyone to find balance, peace and wellbeing, regardless of their financial circumstances. It was never meant to be a luxury, but a compassionate form of support available to all. That philosophy still guides me today. I believe Reiki should be within reach for anyone who needs it. That’s why I keep my sessions fairly priced at £50 and also offer free sessions for oncology patients and those affected by domestic violence. And all who come to me know that I tend to go over time and add in extra healing elements where possible, whether it's adding in crystals, sound healing or even some spiritual guidance. Healing should never be out of someone’s reach because of cost. Reiki, at its heart, is about connection, compassion and care — not exclusivity. I’ll always stay true to that. Because Reiki isn’t about wealth — it’s about wellbeing. And everyone deserves access to that. Comments are closed.
