HOW MEDITATION CAN HELPY OU TO LIVE A FLOURISHING LIFE

Heres a really interesting article & interview about meditation and how it can help you to overcome the challenges  of everyday life.

"We critically need to educate our own minds and brains so that we can regulate our own attention and not cede it over to the media, to all these forces that we never gave our consent to....unless we take better control of our own minds, we're going to be in trouble..... and we need to learn the skills of how to better regulate our emotions, in order to more successfully adapt to the modern world. Meditation provides us with some simple tools to learn these skills of self-regulation."

Having been running weekly meditation classes now for several years, I know from client feedback just how much meditation helps.

MIND HOW YOU MEDITATE

Meditation can help you to achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm state.

I’ve been teaching deep relaxation and meditation for a number of years now. Sharing hints & tips on music, breathing techniques, visualisations..

Read on for my most important meditation tips..

  • we naturally go into an altered state hundreds of times a day, so we can all do it!
  • however it can take practice to consciously reach a relaxed state, practice is required
  • you don’t have to be sat cross legged on a beach! And you don’t need to be vegan or dope smoking hippie! Seriously, bin the media portrayal & stereotypes!
  • just make an effort be comfortable, favourite chair, wrapped in your favourite blanket, or gazing out of the window, just be comfortable
  • whilst it’s good to have a space free from interruptions, you don’t need it to be silent, learning to relax amongst the coming & going’s of everyday life is a good thing
  • 5 mins is just as valuable as 30 mins
  • focusing on your breath helps, bringing you awareness to your breathing can help you to relax as it gives your mind a focus, however you don’t have to use any special breathing techniques as for some this can bring tension & stress to the mind and body, a meditative state is a natural relaxed state, so your natural breath rhythm is enough
  • we all have chatty minds, don’t try to stop your thoughts, we have to learn to let them go, to let them flow through..
  • your mind can only do so many things at once, give it a few jobs to do - like focusing on your breathing and listening to a guided soundtrack encouraging visualisations - will confuse it, keep it busy and help to stop the ‘monkey mind’ chatter
  • use YouTube or apps such as Calm , Headspace if they work for you
  • join a community if you like to feel connected by group energy, online works just as well as in person, and there are many places that don’t charge to join - like my Sunday night zoom events
  • have a 1-2-1 session if you want to build confidence
  • just give it a go!

Meditate From Home to Stay Calm in Changing Times

With the onset of COVID-19, and the restrictions in place, now is a time to stop, be calm, reflect and find new ways to grow. And we are going to have to do this from home.

Discovering new ways of working and growing are so important right now. As is taking the time to be calm in the midst of the chaos.

Meditation is a brilliant way to soothe emotions, to relax and calm any stirring anxiety.  Focusing on the here and now, we focus on slowing down thoughts and shutting out all the noise. It also helps you to connect with your inner voice, and to listen your gut instinct.

Physically, it's great for lowering blood pressure and racing heart rates.

Using a mix of breath work and listening to recorded guided visualisations, you can meditate from the safety of your own home by: 

  1. Listening to the meditation tracks I've recently recorded.
  2. Joining me remotely on Monday night for a free meditation session using the Zoom app. Get in touch for details.

Either way is easy!

  • find a comfy chair in a quiet space 
  • relax
  • listen to my voice
  • breathe
  • listen to my voice
  • breathe
  • let your thoughts free flow
  • relax, relax, relax
